At Disney's D23 Expo last weekend, there were a ton of announcements but for the Star Wars fans, none was more exciting than the announcement about the new Star Wars film - Rise of Skywalker. The event also saw the teaser trailer of the upcoming film which drove fans into a frenzy of questions.
Rise of Skywalker is going to be the end of the current Star Wars trilogy - the third installation after The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. The trailer shows a mini-recap of all the 8 previous films, building up to the battle between Kylo Ren and Rey. However, at the end of the teaser, Daisy Ridley's Rey is seen with a crimson lightsaber. Now that's something to think about. Check it out:
Director JJ Abrams also announced at the event that he will be closing the trilogy with an appearance from the late Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia. He said that it only felt right to include her in the conclusion of this trilogy because she was "the heart of the movie". There were other announcements about Star Wars during the D23 including an original Star Wars series titled The Mandalorian that is set to air in November 2019.
Rise of Skywalker is expected to release on December 19, 2019.
