Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Final Trailer Released
After a 42-year long journey, we are finally arriving at the end. The Rise of Skywalker is due to release on the 20th of December this year, and according to director J.J. Abrams, it will give the fans the ending they deserve. “We went into this thing knowing it has to be an ending. We’re not screwing around,” Abrams told Entertainment Weekly. The Lost and Star Trek producer also admitted that there is a lot of pressure when it comes to creating a perfect ending.
Abrams is the only one aside from George Lucas himself to have the honour of directing more than one Star Wars film, and bearing the responsibility of safely landing a spectacular ending to possibly the biggest blockbuster series of all time, it’s hard to imagine the pressure that he has put on himself and the crew. “Endings are the thing that scare me the most.” Abrams said. “This is about bringing this thing to a close in a way that is emotional and meaningful, and also satisfying in terms of actually answering (as many) questions as possible. So if years from now, someone’s watching these movies, all nine of them, they’re watching a story that is as cohesive as possible.”
The events of Star Wars: Episode IX begin approximately a year after the last film, and as seen in the trailer, it is likely going to end with the battle between Kylo Ren and Rey. Other familiar characters, such as Chewie, Poe Dameron, Finn, BB-8, C-3P0, and R2-D2 are also seen returning in the film as part of the Resistance.
Interestingly, in the D23 special look version of the trailer, Rey is seen handling a crimson lightsaber. Check it out below.
