T’Challa, born as the only biological son to King T’Chaka and Queen N’Yami, is the current King and Chieftain of Wakanda. Wakanda is a techno-dexterous African nation that lived up to its fifth-world visage for generations, before finally revealing that it is indeed equipped with almost an eternal supply of vibranium, an ultra-durable metal substance, enabling the kingdom to achieve technological superiority that is lightyears ahead of the rest of the world.

Following the birth of T’Challa, Queen N’Yami succumbed to an autoimmune disease that she developed while carrying T’Challa. Her death affected the family, but even more so T’Challa’s adopted older brother White Wolf aka Hunter. Hunter developed a growing hatred towards T’Challa since the time of his birth, but T’Challa managed to temporarily make peace by making Hunter the head of the Hatut Zeraze - Wakanda’s secret police. However, after the death of T’Chaka, T’Challa made a decision to disband the Hatut Zeraze because of their brutality, and the feud between the two resumed, driven by Hunter’s desire for revenge.

T’Challa was exposed to the unique properties of Vibranium at a very young age, and in due course became an expert of sorts of the material and its capabilities. He learned the ways of Wakanda and together with his knowledge about Vibranium, he was prepared by T’Chaka to become the next king. Years later, T’Challa would meet his nemesis - renowned physicist and son of Nazi war crimes, Ulysses Klaw.

As a young prince and on one of the regular border inspections with his father T’Chaka, T’Challa got lost and was discovered by Ramonda (portrayed as Queen Ramonda by Angela Bassett in the MCU). Upon bringing T’Challa home to his father, Ramonda decided to remain in Wakanda and become a mother figure to T’Challa. She later married T’Chaka and became the Queen of Wakanda. At a ceremony near the border of Wakanda, T’Chaka was approached by Ulysses Klaw and his team of mercenaries. Klaw attempted to petition for the mining rights of the remaining vibranium in Wakanda, but was immediately rejected by the king, resulting in his mercenaries opening fire. T’Challa stepped in, but in an effort to help, he fell into the crosshairs of Klaw’s sonic blaster. As Klaw fired the shot, T’Chaka shielded his son, killing him almost instantly. With the help of Zuri, T’Challa disarmed Klaw and used his own blaster against him, permanently maiming the villain. Klaw was forced to retreat, and thus began the reign of T’Challa as King of Wakanda, and as the Black Panther.
