Anakin Skywalker, born to his slave mother Shmi Skywalker, was a human male Force-sensitive who grew up in Tatoooine. Although he had a human mother, Anakin had no father. He was conceived by midi-chlorians, organisms that were very closely related to the Force.
As a young boy, he worked in his master's shop and developed exceptional building and piloting skills. With the scraps that were available to him, he built the protocol driod C-3PO for his mother, and he later built his own podracer and participated in podracing. One day, his master Watto is visited by Padme Amidala, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, a Gungan named Jar Jar Binks, and astromech droid called R2-D2. Walking into his master's shop Anakin is asked to man the shop while the odd bunch discuss about their damaged ship with Watto. That visit marked the discovery of Anakin, leading to Jinn learning about his connections with the Force.
Convinced that Anakin was the Chosen One to fulfill the prophecy, Jinn brought Anakin back to the Jedi Temple to meet with the Jedi Council. Jedi Grandmaster Yoda very quickly sensed fear and darkness within Anakin and warned the council against making him an apprentice, to which they unanimously agreed to not allow Anakin in as an apprentice. However, Jinn insisted that he would make Anakin his own apprentice and take full responsibility of the boy. Not long after Anakin's recruit, Jinn is unfortunately killed in the Battle of Naboo, and the Jedi Council decide to allow Anakin to continue to train in the temple, despite Yoda's persistently strong warning against it. Little did they know that their decision would be the start of Anakin's short-lived journey as one of the most powerful Jedi ever, and the birth of a powerful Sith Lord.
Much later on and after a whole lot of events in between, Padme Amidala and Anakin fall in love with each other and the two get married. They lived together for only a short time, bearing a pair of twins named Luke Skywalker and Leia Skywalker. After the birth of his children, Anakin started to succumb to the call of the dark side. He eventually breaks, leaving his family behind and joining the Galactic Empire under the leadership of Emperor and Sith Lord Darth Sidious.
Anakin became the Sith apprentice of Darth Sidious, ultimately becoming one of the most powerful Siths to ever live, taking on the name Darth Vader. As Darth Vader, he became an enforcer of the Galactic Empire fighting against the Rebellion, bringing chaos and destruction throughout his time in power. He was responsible for the deaths of many members of the Rebellion and Jedi alike. The death of his wife Padme only made things worse for him, turning him into what Obi-Wan Kenobi referred to as "more machine than man." Despite what he had become, Darth Vader was never able to completely eliminated the Light Force within him. He remained a conflicted Sith.
During the Galactic Civil War, Darth Vader is confronted by Luke Skywalker, which would be the first time that he would reveal himself as the father of Luke. The confrontation awoke compassion within him, and for a brief moment Vader returned to the Light Side, helping Luke defeat the Empire. Vader engages in a battle with Darth Sidious, killing him in the process but suffering from a lot of physical injuries himself. His heroic act led to the toppling of the Empire and rise of the New Republic, thus fulfilling his destiny as the Chosen One.
