Thor Odinson is the Asgardian God of Thunder, and son of the ruler of Asgard, Odin. With his hammer the Mjolnir, Thor was one of the fiercest and most fearless warriors of Asgard. Thor grew up in Asgard with his adopted brother Loki, who was adopted by Odin after he killed Loki's father, the frost giant Laufey. Although they shared a childhood, Loki was always jealous of Thor because he was Odin's favorite. Thor learned the ways of the warrior from their father while Loki learned magic and deception from their mother. Even as children Loki resented Thor and as they grew older, Loki's resentment for Thor became more apparent. He tries to kill Thor on multiple occasions, even as a child:
"There was one time when we were children, he transformed himself into a snake, and he knows I love snakes. So I went to pick up the snake to admire it, and he transformed back into himself and he was like "It's me!" and he stabbed me." - Thor
Thor was the rightful heir to the throne of Asgard but due to his irresponsible and impulsive decision to attack Jotenheim without the consent of his father, he was stripped off his powers and banished to Earth, where he lived in exile for a while, learning the values of humanity and responsibility. While on Earth, he meets and falls in love with scientist Jane Foster, befriended humans and help protect and save them from the Destroyer that was sent by Loki. With that act, Thor redeemed himself and was welcomed back to Asgard as a hero. As soon as he arrived at Asgard, he was sent back to Earth because Loki had survived a fall through a black hole and ended up in Earth, where he wanted to execute his plan for world domination with the help of the Tasseract.
Enter the Avengers. Thor's first impression with the Avengers was not great, as he tried to steal Loki from them halfway through transporting him back to S.H.I.E.L.D. base. This decision was met with Iron Man and Captain America battling him for possession of Loki and the Tasseract. Thor later understands that they have a common interest and joins the Avengers with the guidance of S.H.I.E.L.D., becoming one of the founding members of the Avengers.
In his time with the Avengers, Thor survived every battle including the Snap, but lost his hammer, the Mjolnir, destroyed by his ferocious sister Hela. Thor crafts a new hammer with the help of the dwarf Eitri at Nidavelir, called the Stormbreaker, right before the battle at Wakanda. The Stormbreaker is used to battle Thanos and his army but to no avail.
After the Snap and the killing of Thanos, Thor returns to New Asgard and exiles himself because he was unable to accept his failure to stop stop the Snap, and the effects of it. Years later, Hulk visits Thor with Rocket Racoon and convinces him to rejoin the Avengers in an attempt to reverse the effects of the Snap. After their success and the final defeat of Thanos, Thor joins the Guardians of the Galaxy.
